What do you get when you mix drag queens, opera singers, and a guy with a huge pretzel on his back? The Richie Rich Villionaire runway show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Formerl part of design duo Heatherette with Traver Rains, Rich has branched off to do his own thing and he did it in a big way.
The show commenced with a melodic tune from a harpist and opera singer before an animated performance by the Harlem James Gang. And then it was time to get down to fashion business. Socialite Tinsley Mortimer opened the runway show in a navy beaded skirt and deconstructed tulle bodice followed by a myriad of models clad in silk jersey dresses, bustiers, and sheer tops. The look the designer was going for was "1920's prohibition sexy" but somehow it all got lost in the glitz, glamour, and tulle.
After a surprise musical performance featuring Richie Rich himself, there was another runway presentation. This was clearly the 1980's punk rock portion of the show with ripped tees, glitter, and scantily dressed male models. For his final bow, Rich escorted reality starlet J-Woww down the runway adding yet another element of surprise. To say it was an interesting night would be an understatement, yet it was night of controlled chaos that only Richie Rich could pull off.
