SCANWICHES BOOK LAUNCH

Sandwich aficionado Jon Chonko has turned food into art in his new book, Scanwiches. Featuring over 100 pages of delectable delights like the classic cheesesteak, the Muffaletta, and even an ice cream sandwich, this book will leave your mouth watering with each flip of the page.  Sandwiches were cut in half and then scanned so readers could see each yummy layer.  The ingredients are listed as well as a short anecdote about each creation.

I attended the book launch at sandwich spot 'wichcraft (of course) where they were serving up some tasty little morsels in the form of braised beef brisket sandwiches.  Chonko, casually clad in a yellow (you guessed it) sandwich t-shirt, was on hand to sign books and talk about his edible obsession.  It began when he was working in Soho where he would get sandwiches for lunch every day.  When someone playfully mentioned a scanwich instead of sandwich, an idea was born and Chonko decided to scan the heros to show what was inside.  From that idea came the popular blog, scanwiches.com which the graphic designer turned author has now made into a book.  Chonko has either made and/or eaten all of the comestibles featured in the book, his favorites being the Chivito and the towering Dagwood.

Now I'm off to the kitchen to go make myself a sandwich!
