MIAMI SWIM FASHION WEEK

Summer is in full swing and in New York we are in the midst of a full-blown heat wave. What better way to beat the heat than to head to the beach or the pool? And of course you have to look fabulous whether on the beach at Coney Island or lounging poolside on the roof of the Gansevoort Hotel.

At Miami Swim Week, several designers debuted some of the hottest swimwear from barely there bikinis to cute one-piece suits for the more modest girls. Here are some of my favorite looks.

SamanthaThavasa Launch

Notice the blank photo above? This is where I would have posted great pictures of the purses created by socialite turned designer Tinsley Mortimer for the Samantha Thavasa line that's wildy popular in Japan. Unfortunately I was turned away at the door after there was a slight snafu with the RSVP.

But after viewing the new designs online I was less than enthused about it. Inspired by 80's rock bands, the new collection featured lots of leather, chains, and tie-dye. While I could envision myself rocking a little grey and white clutch with a criss-cross pattern on the front, I was not impressed with the quilted purses with chain straps that resembled a fake Chanel purse I could have found on Canal Street.

DOMENICO VACCA DENIM PARTY

What could be better than a night filled with Bellini's and male models walking around with their shirts off? This is what I found at the Domenico Vacca denim preview at the store in Soho. Known for his tailored suit jackets and dress shirts, the Italian designer has dressed everyone from Forest Whitaker to Jamie Foxx, to Dustin Hoffman, and the list goes on.

The denim line will launch in Fall 2010. But will this be just another overpriced pair of trendy jeans that we will only see on celebrities or will this new line really last? Only time will tell. You be the judge.

TRIPLE FAT GOOSE RELAUNCH

Tonight I attended the relaunch of the brand Triple Fat Goose. Best known for their winter down jackets, the brand is back after 15 years with a new line that includes jeans, short-sleeve shirts, and shorts.


Now back to the actual event. They had drinks, music, ambiance, everything but fashion! There was no fashion show, no models showing off the new looks, only a few lonely dress forms featuring a couple of shirts.


Here are a few looks from the Spring/Summer line. By the way, the "model" is Hank Baskett of the Philadelphia Eagles better known as Kendra Wilkinson's other half.
